HVAC Zoning Helps Dial In IAQ

Consumers are more interested in indoor air quality (IAQ) than ever, so HVAC contractors need to know all the IAQ tools inside and out. That includes HVAC zoning. Why? It’s not technically an IAQ product on its own, but HVAC zoning helps dial in IAQ.

Air quality considerations have always been an important part of HVAC systems. Now it has become a primary concern for many consumers, especially in retrofits and system upgrades. High-MERV filters are now the norm. Humidifier and dehumidifier systems are more common, too. Even UV and ionizing systems are requested more often these days. As consumers become savvier with the equipment that can improve their home’s IAQ, it’s essential to match their knowledge with best practices. That includes installing right-sized systems, and understanding how to make IAQ products most effective.

HVAC zoning can be an integral part of doing just that.

How HVAC Zoning Helps Dial In IAQ

HVAC zoning is all about airflow distribution. Zoning systems get the air where the customer wants it, when they want it. We like to call this “right-time, right-place, right-temp.” Zoning will improve the distribution of filtered and cleaned air, too. That makes your IAQ equipment more effective.

Even if you’re not installing IAQ equipment, zoning can help with IAQ. By compartmentalizing the areas of a house, HVAC zoning keeps air circulating in unused portions of the building. This reduces allergens and mold, all while using less energy than running a system at full capacity. Especially during the shoulder seasons, zoning can reduce calls for heating or cooling during temperature fluctuations. The zoning system monitors the conditions in each zone and only calls when an area is out of settings.

Smarter Fresh Air with CoolMizer

Arzel also offers the CoolMizer residential economizer. It’s ready to improve any IAQ solutions you’re installing.

CoolMizer works smarter than other products. It draws air through an opening controlled by an Arzel damper and tests it for temperature and humidity levels. It will introduce outside air only when the conditions are right. It works with the rest of the system to add fresh air, improving indoor air quality while enhancing system efficiency. The result – better air, a smoother running system, and bottom-line savings.

Zone weighting is pretty simple, but it has a big impact on zoning system design with multi-stage equipment. It increases energy efficiency and allows you to design smaller zones. It also just makes sense. Here’s how zone weighting works, and why it matters. Zoning System Design When you design a zoning system, you have to […]

What is Static Pressure and Why Does it Matter in Zoning? Static pressure is basically the air pressure inside the ductwork in an HVAC system. In zoning, we use static pressure as a functional tool. When dampers close to isolate only a portion of the ductwork, that zone gets more air, more velocity and more […]

Zone Dampers for Residential HVAC Zone dampers are an important comfort solution for residential HVAC systems. These devices open or close in the ductwork to direct conditioned air to the right place at the right time. They reduce energy waste and ensure consistent temperatures in the home. Arzel Zoning makes high-quality zone dampers specifically designed […]
