Arzel Panel Overview
Learn more about the zone control panels that we offer in this zoning panel overview. It covers MPS, AirBoss, HeatPumPro, Evergreen, GTPro, and CoolMizer.
Transcript:
Good morning, everyone. This is Jason from Arzel Zoning. Today’s Webinar Wednesday we’re going to go over our product line. So just our panels. Just a brief overview of each of the panels. Kind of what they do, what they’re used for and kind of what is the difference between the panels that we offer.
So we essentially offer six different panels, and we’re going to touch on each one of these. And then we have our CoolMizer panel as well, which is not zoning related, but it is a panel we offer, and we’ll kind of touch on that one as well.
So the first panel that we offer out there is kind of our basic platform. It’s going to be our 202 or 203 MPS panel. These specific panels are only good for single stage equipment. So if you guys are doing two stage pieces of equipment, you’re going to want to use either HeatPumPro or AirBoss panel. But if you have just a single stage platform, you’re looking for a budget-friendly panel, this is definitely a good, really reliable panel for you. It will work in heat pump applications, so if you do have a heat pump with electric heat, it can definitely work for that.
Just something to keep in mind with this panel is you have to match the thermostat to the application. So if you guys are doing a gas furnace, air conditioning, just single stage heat/cool thermostat will do it for you. If you do have a heat pump application, it needs to be heat pump thermostats.
Other than that, pretty basic. There’s no leaving air temperature protection or anything like that built into the panel. So if you did want something like that, you can do a third party aftermarket kind of, leaving air temperature if you wanted to as well. But really reliable panel just stripped down, real basic kind of, you know, go to panel for your single stage applications out there.
Then we do have our AirBoss panel, which is actually our longest running panel. So we’ve offered this panel the longest out of any of the panels that we offer. It is our largest zone capacity. So this particular panel will go up to eight zones. And it does come in a two, three, four, 6 or 8 zone configuration. If you guys had an oddball number or like a 5-zone, you can always just leave the sixth zone capped off. They can use it for future use if they wanted to, at that point.
Some of the things to keep in mind with the AirBoss is same deal with the MPS series. The thermostats have to match your application. So if it’s a heat pump, heat pump thermostats, if it’s conventional, it needs to be conventional gas furnace, air conditioning, heat/cool only thermostats. And then it’s up to you if you guys want to use two stage thermostats or not. If you want the thermostats to do all the staging and you have the wires for it, you can definitely go that route.
But it also incorporates second stage delay timers in the board as well. So if you guys didn’t have enough wires, you know, run to one of the zones or something like that, you could put a fixed – anywhere from two minutes to 30 minute – time delay on your second stage, and the panel controls that from there. This panel will work for anything from single stage conventional all the way through dual fuel applications.
And then it does have our modulating bypass port built into the top as well. So if you guys have variable speed or ECM equipment out there and you need a bypass, it’s already got the port for it. The only accessory you would need is our modulating bypass kit.
And this particular panel does have that leaving air temperature sensor built into the panel as well. So it does ship with that. So that’ll give you guys your high limit and low limit protection on your equipment as well.
This is just a picture of that delay timer. Like I said you can use two stage thermostats or the delay timer built into the board, 2 minutes to 30 minutes. And it allows you to pick if you want to use it for heating or cooling mode. Or you can do both and do it that way as well.
And then we have our HeatPumPro panel. This is going to be our most popular panel that we offer. And it’s going to come in anything from a two to a four zone. So 2, 3, or 4-zone configuration. If you do need to add zones, you can add slave zones to this particular panel, which would give you that damper operation, but not be able to physically kick on your equipment. So it would rely on any other zone in the panel to call before you achieve your, equipment operation.
The really nice part about the HeatPumPro is you can do just single stage heat/cool thermostats across all of your zones, and it’ll actually be able to give you guys 4 heat, 2 cool on your output. So it’s a really nice feature really.
What sets this differently than our AirBoss is the means that you can do just single stage thermostats. You don’t need heat pump thermostats. Also though, all of the staging is actually built into the panel itself. So it’s going to control all of your second stage outputs and you’re able to do that based on leaving air temperature but also the size of your zones.
So if you guys do have smaller zones and they can’t handle that full equipment capacity, it allows you to pick and choose what zones you want to achieve second stage or completely lock them out so you guys can pick a percentage of ductwork open in that system before you guys achieve second stage operation on your outputs.
So it’s a really nice panel. All that’s built into it, it’s all field settable. So you guys can pick and choose how you want it to do, what you’re trying to achieve and get the most efficiency out of that piece of equipment. And it does ship with everything you guys will need for any application. So it’s going to have your outdoor air temperature sensor, as well as the leaving air temperature sensor. So you don’t need any additional controls. It’ll handle all of your balance point settings, resistance lockout settings, all of that is actually built into the panel. So really nice, well-rounded panel for you guys.
And like I was saying about the zone weighting feature, how we achieve that is we actually separate your air handler from your condenser on your output. So with that, we can actually stage them independently of each other so we can achieve a second stage condenser while running a first stage blower, which will get you guys better dehumidification on those zones longer run times, but also reduce the air velocity noise on smaller zones. So there’s a lot of benefits to this. If you guys do want to get more into the zone weighting, we do a complete webinar based completely on HeatPumPro.
It goes over all the settings, how they affect the operation of the equipment, how the zone weighting feature works, and how to adjust them to get the most out of your equipment. So if you guys are interested in that, you can go to our website and sign up for the pre-scheduled webinars. Or you can actually just request a live one on one webinar at any time as well. And that’s right through our website as well. Just go to arzelzoning.com, services tab, and then Training Opportunities. And then just pick what you’re looking for.
We also offer our Evergreen panel. So this particular panel is no different than our HeatPumPro. It’s going to have the exact same board in it. The only difference is it’s paired with an ECM motor. So it’s a drop in replacement for a PSC motor. What that allows you guys to do is give a single stage piece of equipment the operation of a two-stage blower, and then your Evergreen panel will actually control that staging.
So it gives you the benefits of locking out first and second stage on smaller zones, gives you a little bit more flexibility. So if you guys have a customer that’s not ready to replace their equipment with two stage yet, but still wants to take advantage of zoning, it gives you some of those benefits of those ECM motors, as far as the energy efficiency, being able to lock out second stage operation, longer runtime. So, you know, a lot of benefits to this without necessarily having to replace the whole piece of HVAC equipment for your customer as well.
So it’s a nice panel. Just keep in mind it’s really no different than the HeatPumPro. So you could do these independently of each other as well. You can do the panel. And then, you know, a couple years down the road do the motor or vice versa. So it’s very versatile. Really it’s just for marketing. That’s why it’s in a different box. So if you buy it, it’s paired with the motor, which is a Genteq Evergreen motor.
Then the last zoning panel that we offer is going to be our GTPro panel. This particular panel is only good for geothermal applications. So if you guys have any other applications, you’re going to want to use one of our other panels. But the really nice thing is this has all the logic of our HeatPumPro built into it, but also incorporates a loop temperature sensor as well, so you can incorporate your low loop temp, which will also help with the staging of the equipment.
We also do a complete webinar on the GTPro going through the settings and the differences of this particular panel as well. But we do have it available if you guys have any questions specifically due to the GTPro, just reach out to tech support all the more than willing to help you guys out with that as well.
And then we, the last panel that we offer is actually not zoning related. So this can be actually installed on any piece of HVAC equipment. It doesn’t necessarily have to be zoned to add the CoolMizer. But if you guys are doing zoning and you want to do the CoolMizer as well, we can build a custom panel that incorporates both into one box.
But essentially what the CoolMizer does is it gives you guys economizer function on a residential application. So you guys would run an outdoor temperature sensor, which actually reads humidity and outdoor temp. And then that’s going to give you your lockouts for your economizer function, which you’re going to run an outdoor duct outside as well, which will pull that cool air inside and be able to run that with your mechanical if needed. Or just use the outdoor cool air, to cool a home on a mild day instead of running your actual HVAC equipment.
Now, I did get a question on the chat too, about the GTPro and how many zones. That panel will do the same as the HeatPumPro. So two, 3 or 4 zone configuration. And then you can also add the slaves to that particular panel if you needed to go higher than that as well.
And then also with the CoolMizer panel, it also incorporates a fresh air damper as well. So you can use that with your economizer damper. Or you can use just the economizer function. It’s up to you guys, but that option is there, and then you don’t need any additional controls to bring fresh air into the system as well. We also do a complete webinar on CoolMizers. So how to size your dampers, operation set up and all that as well.
Then we do offer a couple of different boards that can be added to our panels as well. We kind of touched base on the add-a-zone or our slave zone. This can be added in the factory to any one of our panels. This will give you guys damper operation without equipment control, so it’ll actually rely on another zone to call for the same function before it actually allows the dampers to open so they’ll sit closed.
It’s really used more so for over conditioning, and this can actually be built into its own panel. If you have a customer that has, you know, bathroom right above their furnace, it’s constantly overheating. It’s always hot in the wintertime, always cold in the summer. What you can do instead of zoning the whole home, you know, that might be the only area that’s actually affecting that.
You can zone just that bathroom and add the alone zone. That’ll give them dampers in the bathroom or bedroom or whatever it may be, which will prevent that over conditioning. So once it reaches temperature, that specific area, I’ll close the dampers, not allow the airflow in there, and then still provide heat to the entire home. So it really helps when you have that kind of thing, especially if you have a bedroom right over the bathroom or right above the furnace or something like that.
You really get a lot of heat coming out of the registers in the winter because of the distance to your HVAC equipment, and most people aren’t aware that we offer that kind of panel. So it’s a nice thing to kind of keep in mind. They don’t have to necessarily zone that whole home and still get some of those results due to over conditioning.
We also do a lot of custom panels, so if you guys are ever interested, you have an oddball setup out there. We can do a custom panel for you and make a custom diagram. This specific one is just a HeatPumPro panel with our ZVI board, so it’s essentially controlling baseboard heat with a heat pump with electric back up as well.
So incorporates all that into one panel and one control. So you guys don’t need a bunch of controls and a bunch of relays hanging on the wall that incorporates everything for you. So if you guys do have anything like this, it’s an application. You know, it’ll change, vary, you know, job by job. So if you guys do have anything like that, just give us a call, explain what you want to do, and we can help you out on designing that as well.
We also have our interface panel. So if you guys do have, you know, our zoning system installed at a home and you guys want to install something like a communicating piece of equipment, our panels are not adaptable to communicating equipment, but we can piggyback our dampers off of their controls. And we can do that with our zone interface panel.
This is kind of a very, you know, case by case basis. If you guys have an application where you’re wondering if we can adapt to it, I recommend giving us a call at tech support, letting us know what kind of equipment you have. We could tell you if we’re compatible or not, but typically if it’s a spring open or a spring closed system, we can actually adapt to that. If it’s power open, power closed, typically we cannot adapt to those. So we need at least one of the functions to be a spring closed. So we can’t adapt to power open, power closed equipment. But like I said, if you guys do have any questions with that or a specific application, just give us a call and we’ll be able to verify that for you.
Then we do have our installation toolkit. So if you guys are new to Arzel, just starting install it, I do recommend buying this kit. It’s basically gonna have everything you’re going to need for a typical installation. So it’s going to have all of our fittings. It’ll come with about 200 screws as well. Then the biggest thing is really the tubing stapler works really well for stapling our tubing up, but it’s also really handy for low voltage wiring.
So if you guys are running thermostats or something like that all the time in the field, just for that makes it nice, clean, even look. It also has a ductwork finder tool, which is essentially a noisemaker. You guys will put that in your ductwork. It magnets inside the ductwork, and then it creates a beeping noise. And that allows you to be able to find that duct in the home without having two guys there. So you don’t have one guy yelling on your duct and the other guy running through the home trying to figure out where that duct is. So just saves you guys time. You don’t need two guys to do one job.
The thing in the front there, the red piece, is actually our EzyHub. It’s used with our internal mount dampers and essentially acts like a manifold. So just allows you a place to bring all your tubing back to. And then just one tube back to your, panel. And you can buy those individually as well. That one is included in the kit.
Then all of our panels are going to have our limited lifetime warranty. So as long as the panel is registered, it’s going to have a lifetime warranty. And that’s parts only, but it’s covered for the lifetime of the panel. Or the lifetime the homeowner actually lives in the home, and that is transferable. If you guys have any questions with that, just give us a call.
And we do offer our 100% comfort guarantee as well. So what that actually is, is you can offer that to your customer. If they’re on the fence about zoning, they’re not sure if they’re going to be happy with it, that kind of gives them peace of mind.
And what it does is if you guys install an Arzel system, within that first year, if your customer is not happy with it for any reason, we will buy that whole system back at no charge. So it’s just a peace of mind, nice closing tool for your customer.
And then our tech support, our regular office hours are 8 to 5 Monday through Friday. It’s Eastern Standard Time, but we are available to technicians seven days a week. And it’s 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. And you can reach us just by calling (800) 611-8312. And like I said, office hours are 8 to 5. There’s typically no wait time.
You’ll get a hold of us real quick. If it’s after hours or the weekend. All we ask is let it ring for a little while. It rolls in a rotation between all of our cell phones and, you know, we may be busy. We’re at home with our families. We will answer, but sometimes the first guy in line doesn’t hear the phone, and it takes a minute to go to the next guy.
So if you are calling after hours or on the weekends, just give us a little bit of time, but we will pick up and we’ll be able to help you guys with the application design, any technical information, troubleshooting. Also, warranties all get approved through tech support. So if you have anything that’s a warranty issue, you need to call us as well. We will talk you guys through troubleshooting and then send you guys out a direct replacement part. If it is a warranty.
Other than that, we offer a lot of marketing resources as well. And these are free to you guys. So we have handouts for homeowners and that just explaining zoning, a little bit about Arzel and what we do. If you guys are interested, you can go to our website, and click on the marketing resources or just give us a call, and ask for marketing. They can help you out that way.
Also, if you guys are a contractor or a distributor and you haven’t signed up for our locator tool yet, I would encourage you to do that. Essentially, if you guys sign up for that, any customer looking for a distributor or contractor in your area, they’ll enter the zip and it pulls up everybody in that area that sells or works on Arzel. It’s just an easy way for our customers to find you guys.
Other than that, that’s pretty much it for today. I appreciate you guys taking the time out today.
