How to Use the Zone Weighting Feature

Arzel’s zone weighting feature lets you control fan speed based on the amount of ductwork being served. This optimizes multi-stage equipment in two ways: 1) The equipment can stay in a lower stage more often because it's not conditioning the entire home and 2) You can create smaller zones because you can lockout second-stage operation when a small zone is calling by itself. Zone weighting is available with the HeatPumPro and GTPro zoning panels. To learn more, see our Zone Weighting Training Video.

Can you give me a quick overview of how the zone weighting works?

So the zone weighting features built into our HeatPumPro are also built into our GTPro. And what it allows you to do is pick a percentage of ductwork per individual zone on the system. And then you’re able to pick an air handler stage threshold, which is another setting in both of them. That is the percentage of ductwork that would need to be open to allow for second stage airflow in your system. So it prevents you form having to much excessive airflow from your smaller zones on a panel.

Okay. I know one of the things ive done explaining to technician’s about the zone weighting is I like to use whole numbers. 20, 40, 50. So our factory defaults are 50 but if i set it to 20 it would require at least 3 zones to call. Becasue 20 and 20 is 40 and less then 50 i need a 3rd zone. But if i wanna make it 2 zones i would set it to 40 because 40 and 40 is greater then 50 w2 y2 would be allowed at that point.
